Semrush AI Toolkit vs a dedicated GEO tool is a cost fight, and the answer turns on one question: are you paying for Semrush anyway? Semrush sells AI visibility two ways: a standalone AI Visibility toolkit at $99/mo per domain (Base, 25 custom prompts), and Semrush One bundles from $139/mo that add it to the SEO suite. Dedicated tools like RankScale and Otterly.AI start at about $24 to $29 and cover more AI engines; RankScale is $17/mo billed yearly and $99/mo month to month. Here’s the honest breakdown, from an SEO who’s watched this category appear over the last two years and is running his own site through it.
The core trade-off: incumbent suite vs specialist
The Semrush AI Toolkit is the incumbent-suite play: AI visibility bolted onto the mature platform you use for rankings, keywords and backlinks. One login, one workflow, one invoice. The dedicated GEO tools are specialists: they do AI-answer tracking and little else, but they tend to cover more engines and cost less on their own.
Neither is “better” in the abstract. It depends entirely on what you already pay for.

The pricing reality
Semrush sells AI visibility two ways. I read both pages in my browser on 17 October 2026.
Standalone. On semrush.com/pricing/ai/ I read one plan, Base, $99/mo per domain. The Monthly toggle also showed $99/mo per domain, so I saw no annual discount. It includes AI visibility reports for any domain, 25 custom prompts (daily AI rankings), 1 domain for Brand Performance analysis, mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity, AI competitor analysis and prompt research, and a site audit for AI readiness.
Bundles (Semrush One, SEO plus AI). A fetch of semrush.com/pricing/seo-ai-search/ on 17 October 2026 showed these monthly prices, with annual-equivalent in brackets:
- SEO, $139/mo ($117.33 annual): 5 websites, 500 keywords tracked daily, AI search performance tracking, AI sentiment and custom prompt monitoring.
- Starter, $199/mo ($165.17): 50 prompts daily, 1 AI domain and MCP access.
- Pro+, $299/mo ($248.17): 100 prompts, 15 websites, 1,500 keywords.
- Advanced, Custom (request a demo): unlimited prompts, 40+ websites, API access, share of voice and team users.
The bundles are a different purchase from Base: you are buying the classic SEO suite with an AI layer, not just the AI layer. So there are two honest comparisons. Standalone, it is $99/mo against $17/mo billed yearly for RankScale Essentials or $29 for Otterly. Month to month, RankScale’s cheapest plan is Pro at $99, the same as Base, so the saving there is in coverage, not price. Otterly is roughly three times cheaper than Base, which gives 25 prompts on one domain. Bundled, it is $139/mo minimum, and the AI layer is a feature of a suite whose main job is classic SEO.
That does not make Semrush a bad buy. If you were going to pay for Semrush anyway, the bundle’s AI layer arrives at little marginal cost. If you only want AI tracking, Base is the Semrush route and a specialist sells comparable tracking for a fraction of the price.
Pick Semrush AI Toolkit if…
- You already pay for Semrush, in which case the AI layer costs you nothing extra and a second vendor, login and invoice buys you very little.
- You are choosing an SEO platform anyway and the AI features tip a decision you were already making on rank tracking, keywords and backlinks.
- You want AI visibility next to your rank tracking, keyword and backlink data in one place.
- You’re an agency already running client SEO in Semrush and want AI reporting in the same dashboards.
Pick a dedicated GEO tool if…
- You’re starting fresh and don’t use Semrush. The integration edge is the whole case for the suite, and it does not apply to you, so you would be paying $99/mo (Base) or $139/mo (a bundle with the SEO suite) for a feature that costs from $24 to $29/mo elsewhere.
- You want more AI engines: RankScale markets 17+ (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, AI Overviews, Copilot and more), well beyond the four sources (ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Perplexity) listed on Base.
- You want the cheapest way in: dedicated tools start at $24 to $29 (Airefs, Otterly), or $17/mo billed yearly for RankScale Essentials, against $99/mo for Base or $139/mo for a bundle.
My honest recommendation
If Semrush is already your home base, the AI layer is a natural add-on, either Base at $99/mo per domain or a bundle, and adding a second vendor to duplicate it would be hard to justify.
If you’re choosing from zero, the case is weaker. The integration advantage does not apply to you, and the entry price for the capability is $99/mo against $24 to $29 for dedicated tools with wider engine coverage (RankScale is $17/mo billed yearly, $99/mo month to month). Start with the specialist, and fold AI visibility into a bigger suite later if and when you are buying that suite for its own reasons.
